In the new knowledge society, the ability to transform R & D into successful businesses is an increasingly urgent need to sustain the growth of countries’ economies.
However, launching a new businesses is not trivial and the possibilities of doing so successfully, judging by the statistics, are low. The most successful startups are those that have proven eager to generate profits and positive cash flow, but patient to achieve growth. In this sense, the scarcest resource for entrepreneurs is time and therefore its proper use proves to be critical for the survival of a startup. Searching for and finding startup capital is an amazingly time consuming task that requires formidable energy. Nowadays, entrepreneurs can save precious time by teaming up with specialized firms such as Intelectium, being able to redirect his or her energy to what really matters: selling and generating profits… For this reason, and because it is a job that requires a very specific expertise and contacts, is one of the first tasks a team of entrepreneurs should consider outsourcing. In addition to this problem of time, energy and focus diversion, in Spain private capital for startups is scarce and therefore should be complemented with public funds, that come in a great variety. There are numerous public support programs for technology-based companies and/or biotechnology startups, which allow to highly leverage private investment. However, each soft loan and grant have very specific requirements and knowing them in advance is critical to get the most benefits out of them. Our recent experience in seeking private + public a capital allows us to provide expert advice on the most appropriate aid and the optimal sequence to request them to optimize the company financing, achieving the lowest dilution for entrepreneurs and a proper balance of risk to private investors. In the last two years, Intelectium has worked with some of the most promising Spanish startups, achieving in 100% of cases at least one investment proposal and investments totaling more than € 30M of private + public capital. Intelectium has an extensive network of contacts, both at Spanish, European and American venture capital funds, as well as with family offices and individual investors. In regard to public funding, Intelectium has worked extensively with organizations such as the CDTI, ENISA and the Ministry of Industry in the presentation and successful obtention of grants such as Neotec I and II, PIDs, Avanza R & D Plans and ENISA equity loans.

Review and strengthening of Business Plans. Review and adaptation, or grassroots development of financial models and company valuations to support the negotiation process with VCs.
Definition of optimal capital structures (capital vs. debt, public debt vs. private debt) and time-wise planning for the simultaneous pursuit of private capital and public support.
Initial contact and project introduction to venture capital companies. Support and advice to entrepreneurs during the negotiation phase with them.
Review and collaboration for the negotiation of Term Sheets, Shareholders' Agreements and/or Investment Framework Agreements. Support in the final negotiations with venture capital companies until the close of the transaction.
Preparation, presentation and follow-up until approval of public capital for the development of R & D and/or companies' expansion and internationalization.
