Operating MODELS OPTIMIZATION
We help our clients strengthen their organizations, processes and key systems
In an article about strategy execution, consultant Peter S. DeLisi cited interesting research which shows that only 10 percent of formulated strategies actually get implemented. Then he goes on to mention that research conducted by the Ashridge Strategic Management Centre in the UK indicates that only 11 percent of companies employ a fully-fledged strategic control system. He added that other alarming statistics, cited in a 1996 Renaissance Solutions survey, indicated that 85 percent of management teams spend less than one-hour a month on strategy issues and only 5% of employees understand their corporate strategy. Also, 92 percent of organizations do not report on lead performance indicators. During our career, several times we witness management practices that explain the aforementioned statistics. Most of the time problems arise due to five main causes:
- Lack of understanding of the strategy process
- Lack of understanding of the real problems their organization is facing due to lack of time and attention to what’s really going on in the marketplace
- Poor attention to detail: Strategy Plan too broad. Plans stay at a high level, not compatible with detail needed for successful implementation
- Strategy Plan not communicated effectively
- People not measured and rewarded according to Strategy Plan execution /people not held accountable for execution
To bring solution to the first two problems, Intelectium developed and works with a series of methodologies described in the “Strategy and Marketing” section of the Website. To deal with the last three problems, Intelectium has developed and specialized in four areas of expertise (refer to the “What we do” box on the right) that allow us to help management teams implement strategy by developing the right organizations and the detailed processes, metrics and reward systems necessary to implement strategies more successfully.
