With a historic investment of more than 12 billion euros up to 2027, this initiative seeks to position Spain as a key player in the global semiconductor industry.
And the best part? Opportunities are open for companies of all sizes, not just for industry giants.
What is the PERTE Chip and why is it key to the Spanish economy?
The PERTE Chip is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain, and its objective is clear: reduce external dependence in the semiconductor value chain, boost the national technological fabric and attract foreign investment.
The chip shortage, compounded by geopolitical tensions, has made it clear that Europe needs to strengthen its technological sovereignty. And Spain has decided to take the lead with this strategic project. This is a historic opportunity to build its own ecosystem in the field of microelectronics.
Recent Calls: What is being funded now?
La PERTE Chip's last big call was launched in January 2025, with an endowment of 110 million euros. The goal? Promote R&D projects in design, manufacturing and advanced materials for semiconductors. It is aimed at companies legally incorporated in Spain, regardless of size, and the help format is especially attractive: 100% grant of the project, delivered after approval.
The interesting thing is that it is a Non-competitive call: projects are evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis, which converts the Early preparation is a key advantage. Proposals must be well-founded, with an innovative approach and a clear impact on the technological value chain.
And who is already taking advantage of this wave of investment?
Several Spanish companies have already obtained funding thanks to this PERTE:
- Vodafone Intelligent Solutions (Malaga) with 13.9 M€ for open chip architecture.
- Ipronics (Valencia) with 11.4 M€ for a programmable processor.
- Wooptix (Tenerife), VLC Photonics, Sensing & Control Systems... the list grows.
These cases show that opportunities are not theoretical, but real and attainable, both for scaleups and for startups with a technological vision.
How can your company access these opportunities?
If you have an innovative idea in hardware, software, sensors or embedded applications, now is the time to act. To successfully present a project, it is essential identify a proposal aligned with the objectives of PERTE, and that it has transformative potential in the technology industry.
In addition, it is key have a solid technical proposal, that is well documented and justifies its impact, both at the R&D and market levels. If the project requires it, form strategic consortiums with other companies or research centers may increase the chances of success. And, of course, you have to be Very attentive to deadlines, since the processing and evaluation is done in order of entry.
In short: It's not a speed race, but it's a preparation race. And in that, the difference between success and being left out is knowing how and when to submit your proposal.
